At 12:30 AM one morning, our client in Lakeland, FL, returned home to find water seeping out of their garage. They immediately contacted our team, who came out within an hour's response time to help fix the issue. The water damage was pretty catastrophic and affected the entire house, with water flooding throughout all the rooms. The damage came from a water supply line to their master bedroom toilet—a tiny part of a toilet, but also a part that is very important.

First, we extracted the sitting water and dried out everything with the proper equipment.
The Lakeland homeowner had some wood flooring that had to be taken up due to water leaking underneath it, so we removed the flooring in order to remove all excess and sitting water. After that, we worked on drying out the rest of the home with about 35 fans and other proper equipment, such as dehumidifiers. This took a few days to ensure the house was completely dry, as we wanted to make sure no moisture was left behind, as that can lead to mold issues.
The next step is to rebuild areas of the home to fix the water damage that occurred.
Once the home is dry, the team will create a plan to fix and rebuild any areas that were affected by the water damage. That will involve floor replacement and taking a look at the faulty toilet water supply line to ensure it doesn't cause another bad leak.
It's recommended to routinely check your toilet water supply lines for any signs of water leakage.
How can you prevent this from happening to your home?
Water damage, whether it's from a leaky toilet or stormwater, can cause many issues throughout your central Florida home. Being proactive is the best way to keep water from damaging your home, and that involves doing several things such as:
- Monitor toilet supply lines regularly
- Check for any areas of roof weakness
- Examine ceilings for any signs of leaks
- Keep your gutters clear
- Ensure trees are trimmed and can't fall on your house or roof
- Check your water bill for unexplained increases
In the event water damage does occur, make sure you call a water damage restoration company such as True Builders immediately so we can mitigate any issues that can happen. Ignoring water damage leads to problems like mold damage, which can have negative effects on your health.
