If you find that the time has come to have new flooring installed, and you are looking to bring a more high-end look to your home, then invest in the best materials possible. Here in Central Florida, our homeowners tend to stay up-to-date, and even be the trendsetters, for different home remodeling styles, including flooring options.
These four trendy options are sure to give your home a more modern and upscale look, while still affording you the versatility to match design schemes for the rest of your space that may change over time.
1. Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring has characteristics that bring a natural element to your interior and creates a neutral backdrop for virtually any style. Both exotic and reclaimed hardwoods are high-end options. Although this isn't the most popular option for flooring we see in the Lakeland/Plant City area, there is definitely no shortage of hardwoord floors in the area.
Exotic Hardwood
Exotic hardwoods are highly valued due to the scarcity of the wood types that are sought after. Exotic wood often comes from such locations as South America and Africa.
Customers should be wary of any exotic hardwood costing less than $12 per square foot.
Reclaimed Hardwood
There has been a recent focus on flooring that has character and design, but that is eco-friendly. Reclaimed hardwood has both of these.
There is a similar scarcity factor with reclaimed hardwood as there is with exotic hardwood. This is because reclaimed hardwood is rescued wood that comes from sources such as old barns and other structures from as early as the 1800s. As such, there is only so much pre-existing wood available. Reclaimed hardwood comes in a variety of species, including:
- Oak
- Pine
- Walnut
- Elm
2. Luxury Vinyl Tile
One of the most popular options in the flooring industry today is luxury vinyl tile (LVT). Not only is this option popular across the United States, it is especially popular in Florida, including our local Plant City and Lakeland area. The more realistic and durable LVT a customer is searching for, the higher the price will go.
LVT gives your home a high-end and natural stone or wood look, while being more cost-effective. This high-demand product is softer and warmer to the touch and gives the added benefit of being slip-resistant. It is also becoming more common to see this type of flooring used in commercial applications.
3. Natural Stone Flooring
Natural stone flooring is an option that is beautiful and can add character to your home, but is one of the most expensive options on the market today, mainly due to the processes involved with quarrying and transporting the stones. We typically only see this flooring option in the luxury homes in the Lakeland area.
The harder and denser the stone, the more expensive the flooring will be per square foot. Some of the traits of stone tile that will influence a homeowner's purchasing decision have to do with the color, patterning, rarity, and type of stone used.
4. Mosaic/Designer Ceramic Floor Tiles
Add a touch of style, sophistication, and luxury to your home with designer ceramic floor tiles. The options with mosaic or designer floor tiles are vast, including:
- Italian tiles
- Antique reclaimed tiles
- Pebble mosaics
- Custom mosaics
- Glass Tiles
- Handmade Tiles
The installation process for mosaic and designer floor tiles varies greatly, mainly because of the amount of customization done and the fact that a mosaic artist needs to be hired. These types of floors are generally only found in the homes of the super-rich and high-end luxury.
Hiring a mosaic artist to create custom artwork for your floor can cost from $150 to $800 per square foot.
Always choose a qualified contractor to install your luxury floors.
Having high-end, luxury flooring brings more value to your home, and not just because of the rarity that may exist for the materials your flooring is produced from. High-end flooring is made from higher quality materials than standard floors, and so generally are more durable.
Just remember that to reap the greatest benefit from your renovation, you need to hire a qualified contractor, such as True Builders, to install your flooring.
